An AIS coach working with a swimmer at the pool deck

You're a performance enabler. This is the science that sustains you.

Coaches sit at the centre of high performance, creating the conditions in which athletes learn, develop and perform. The role is intense. Pressure, travel, relational load, and a career that asks a lot over a long time. Coaches spend their working lives developing others, and have had few structured ways to develop their own wellbeing.

This qualification gives you the science, the language and the tools to build your own wellbeing on purpose, and a nationally recognised credential to show for it. It is underpinned by positive psychology and aligned with the AIS Win Well approach under High Performance 2032+.

Built with 12 AIS coaches

Twelve hand-picked coaches worked through the standard Cert IV first. After every second unit they told us what needed to change. All ten units were rebuilt on what they said.

This is for you, not just your athletes

You spend your days reading other people, managing pressure and being the steady one. It is a privilege, and it is a load. This qualification is built to serve you through all of it.

Online, self-paced, supported the whole way

Everything lives in a dedicated AIS learning space. Every video, activity, diagnostic and your Wellbeing Portfolio, in one place. Work in your own time, around training and travel, on any device. The foundation unit comes first, then each learning block unlocks in order.

Ten units, completed in order

Ten nationally recognised units, grouped into learning blocks. Every unit runs the same loop. Learn the science, diagnose where you are, choose a strategy, apply it for about two weeks, review what changed.

Before you enrol, create a USI

Australian students need a Unique Student Identifier to enrol in nationally recognised training. It is free and takes a few minutes. If you have studied since 2015 you may already have one.

Questions coaches actually ask

How long will it take me?
Six months, self-paced. Most coaches spend a few hours a week. Every unit is sized to be realistic around coaching workloads and travel, and there is no fixed timetable, so you set the pace around your season.
What does it cost, and can my sport pay?
$2,500, no GST payable. Many coaches are funded through their sport or their professional development budget, so it is worth asking your high performance manager before you pay personally.
Can the AIS see how I'm going?
No. The AIS can see that you enrolled. It cannot see your progress, your submissions, your assessments or your results. Your Wellbeing Portfolio is private to you and your Student Support Coach.
Do I need a Unique Student Identifier?
Yes, if you are studying in Australia. It is free and takes a few minutes at usi.gov.au. If you have studied since 2015 you may already have one. If you are based overseas you enrol under an exemption and receive the same nationally recognised certificate.
Are there exams?
No exams and no marks. This is competency-based training. You are assessed as competent or not yet competent through practical tasks applied to your own life. If something is not yet competent you get guidance and resubmit, with no penalty.
Do I need a background in psychology?
No. There are no prerequisites beyond a willingness to apply the science to your own life. Entry requirements are confirmed at enrolment.
What if I'm travelling or mid-season?
The whole build assumes you are. It is mobile-first, the videos are short, and voice or video evidence is accepted wherever the assessment allows it, so you are not typing essays in a hotel room.
What do I actually walk away with?
A nationally recognised AQF Certificate IV that is yours for the rest of your career, a personal wellbeing practice you have tested on yourself under pressure, and the skills to spot low wellbeing in your athletes and staff and respond well.
What happens after I submit the form?
The re:cognition team confirms your place, sets up your access, and walks you through what happens next. You are not committing to payment by submitting the form.

Still got a question?
